Overview

Welcome to my free eBook Preparing for the Masters ASWB Exam! I am passionate about removing barriers to social work licensure.

I was inspired to develop this resource based on the following:

  • Former students who shared facing financial struggles preparing for the ASWB Masters exam on top of the cost of the exam. I view their experiences as social and economic justice issues.
  • Structural issues (how questions are written) with the ASWB exams that are barriers to licensure for social workers.

This preparation provides students and social workers with free preparation materials about the ASWB Masters exam, test-taking strategies, and content related to the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) of ASWB Masters Exam. While some of the information, such as the content outline information, is specific to the ASWB Masters exam, most of the content is also relevant for the Bachelor and Clinical exams.

I appreciate hearing from you if this eBook helps you prepare for and pass the exam. Feel free to send me a LinkedIn message to share your feedback. I also share free practice questions, tips, and resources on LinkedIn.

If you are a social work educator using this eBook with your students, I am interested in learning how you incorporate the eBook into your teaching!

Best wishes,

Alexandria Lewis, Ed.S., MSW, FT, LCSW

Organization of the content

The content outline information in the eBook is not organized in the same order as the ASWB Masters Content Outline.  Instead, I organized the material to enhance your study experience by grouping related concepts and broader themes together. For example, I combined the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) methods to assess motivation, resistance, and readiness for change, the indicators of motivation, resistance, and readiness to change, and methods to engage and motivate clients/client systems in the same chapter. In the ASWB Masters Content Outline, these KSAs are located in different areas: Assessment Methods and Techniques, Intervention Planning, and Intervention Process and Techniques for Use Across Systems. Studying similar concepts together can help reduce your study time by reinforcing connections and improving retention.

There are specific chapters for childhood, adolescence, young and middle adulthood, and older adulthood. This developmental approach allows you to focus on age-specific theories, interventions, and assessment methods in a more cohesive way, rather than having this content scattered across different sections.
