Hows & Whys of Knee Radiography
- Why is it important to flex the knee 30º on the lateral projection of the knee?
- Flexing 30º allows the fat pads of the knee to relax.
- What other names are used for the Sunrise projection?
- Tangential, Settegast or skyline.
- What other names are used for the Tunnel projection?
- Intercondylar fossa PA Axial, Holmblad, or Camp – Coventry.
- How can you tell that the AP knee projection is not rotated?
- Slight overlap of the tibia and fibula, and equal space between the femoral condyles and tibial plateaus on both sides.
- How can you tell if the CR angle was correct on the AP projection of the knee?
- The knee joint space is open.
- How can you tell that a lateral projection of the knee is not rotated?
- The femoral condyles are superimposed.
- Which projections best demonstrate the patella in profile?
- Lateral and Sunrise.
- Which projection best demonstrates the intercondylar fossa?
- Tunnel
