Planning lessons can take considerable time. However, generative AI can support you in the process of preparing lessons. It can serve as a creative thought-partner that will help you create engaging and meaningful learning experiences for students.

Preparation

As you partner with a tool like Microsoft Copilot to develop a lesson, you should have some ideas in mind. Having these ideas will give your generative AI tool some guidance and structure to follow as it crafts and develops the lesson. Your prompt should include the learning objective or outcome that students should achieve and demonstrate by the end of the lesson. In addition, you might like to note some specific teaching methods you would like for the lesson to incorporate and use, such as collaborative learning or a flipped classroom. By asking generative AI to use some specific teaching strategies, you can ensure that the lesson it produces aligns with your expectations and your teaching philosophy.

Ingredients

  • Learning objective or outcome
  • Desired teaching methods or strategies for the lesson to feature and use

Select a learning objective or outcome that you would like to use for a lesson plan.

Copy and paste the learning objective into a prompt and then add, “I would like for you to create a lesson that aligns with this learning objective/outcome. Please include all necessary components of a lesson plan, including activities, assessments, needed materials, differentiation, and back-up plans.” Please ensure that this lesson uses the following teaching methods/strategies: [insert desired teaching method or strategy, such as collaborative learning or a flipped classroom].”

Use iterative prompting as needed.
